LAURENT CABASSO  PIANO

Laurent CABASSO was born in 1961 and studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique
de Paris where he obtained First Prizes in Piano and Chamber Music. He then went on to advanced studies
with Nikita Magaloff, György Sebok, György Sandor and Norbert Braïnin.
He also worked with Maria Curcio Diamand in London.

Having won awards at major international competitions such as the Prix Alex de Vries in 1977,
Prix Geza Anda (Zurich) in 1982 and Tokyo in 1983, Laurent CABASSO now enjoys a busy career
harmoniously dividing his time between recitals, orchestral concerts, chamber music and teaching.
He has given numerous recitals in Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Salle Pleyel), Zurich (Tonhalle),
Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Geneva (Victoria Hall), and Salzburg (Festspielhaus),
as well as at festivals such as Roque d'Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Besançon, Montpellier Radio-France.
He also takes part in concerts as soloist with orchestras including the Suisse Romande,
Monte-Carlo, Zurich, Capitole de Toulouse, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris,
Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre National de France
and the Orchestre National de Lille with conductors such as Dutoit, Leitner, Jordan, Varga,
Baudo, Krivine, Plasson and Zollman. For chamber music, his partners include Sonia Wieder-Atherton,
Raphaël Oleg, Gérard Caussé, Pierre Amoyal, the Rosamonde Quartet, the Arpeggione Quartet,
Laurent Korcia, Marie-Josèphe Jude, Philippe Bernold, Pascal Moraguès, Mireille Delunsch,
Gaëtane Prouvost, and the English clarinettist Emma Johnson.
All of which makes Laurent Cabasso a pianist omnipresent in the world of music.

His recordings are an excellent illustration of his approach to music and are always
extremely well received. Accolades include a Choc in the magazine Le Monde de la Musique for his Schumann;
Grand Prix du disque from the Académie du disque français for Prokofiev;
Joker de Crescendo for Shostakovitch/Prokofiev with Sonia Wieder-Atherton; Beethoven chosen by Le Monde
as one of the best recordings of the year; a Diapason d'Or for his recording of Liszt
with the organist Olivier Vernet; Choc in Le Monde de la Musique and Diapason d'Or of the year
for his participation in Saint-Saëns' « Carnaval des Animaux ».
In 2003 Naïve reissued the two Schumann discs previously recorded for Valois-Auvidis
as a boxed set in their « tête à tête » collection.

Laurent CABASSO has been a resident professor at the Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg
since 1993 and is assistant-professor at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris
(Théodore Paraskivesco's class).
Gabriel Pierné's works for piano and violin with Gaëtane Prouvost was a 2006 release
on the INTEGRAL Classic label.
