PIERRE LÉNERT ALTO

Born in 1966, Pierre LÉNERT started practising the violin with his father Jean LÉNERT.
At the age of sixteen, he entered the CNSM in Paris to attend violin and viola classes.
He then worked with Kim Kashkashian and Hatto Beyerle.
Numerous international prizes crowned his young career. He was the first French soloist
to be a laureate of the International Viola Competition of Markneukirchen.
He also was a laureate of the Maurice Vieux International Competition,
of the Lionel Tertis International Competition and the « Festival d'Automne » competition of young interprets.

He was then backed by the Phipp Morris Foundation for his fist major recital at the Salle Gaveau in Paris.
Thanks to the Menuhin Foundation he performed Harold in Italy by Hector BERLIOZ
and the Concerto by Belà BARTOK under the direction of Sir Yehudi MENUHIN.
Since then, Pierre LÉNERT has been invited by illustrious conductors
(James Conlon, Myung Wung Chung, Armin Jordan, Fréderic Chaslin, Edmond Colomer,
Ronald Zollmann, Philipp de Chalendar, Jacques Mercier...)
to play as a soloist with the most famous orchestras (Opéra National de Paris, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra,
Budapest Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National d'Ile de France)
and he performed with famous soloists (Augustin Dumay, Xavier Philipps).

In September 2007, backed by Mrs Irina CHOSTAKOVITCH and the « Classique au Vert Festival »,
Pierre LÉNERT performed for the first time in France the Concerto for cello by Dimitri CHOSTAKOVITCH
transcribed by Yuri Tkanov with the Orchestre National de Lorraine
under the direction of Jacques MERCIER.
With the same partners, he played as a soloist in Metz, Epinal, Hombourg-Haut and Sarrebrück
performing the Concerto by BARTOK and Harold in Italy by BERLIOZ.
At the same time Pierre LÉNERT started an international career in chamber music.
He was invited to the Marlboro Festival (USA) and the Georges Enesco Festival in Budapest
which permitted him to play with his illustrious seniors Paul Tortelier, Rudolf Serkin
as well as with members of the Beaux-Arts Trio and the Guarneri Quartet.

He was then invited to the International Festivals of Kuhmo (Finland), Gubio (Italy), Barcelona (Spain),
« BBC Proms Chamber Music », Schubertiades (Austria), « L'Oreille en fête » (Grenoble),
« Flâneries Musicales » (Reims), The Festival in Nice and Les Arcs (France) where he played with Martin Frost,
Cédric Tiberghien, Jerôme Pernoo, Alban Gerhardt, Isabelle Faust, Radovan Vlatkovic,
Marielle Nordmann, Alexandre Tharaud, Paul Meyer, Pierre Amoyal, Michaël Rudy,
Patrick Gallois, Henri Demarquette, The Melos Quartet, The Danel Quartet and the Athenaeum-Enesco Quartet.

He has also explored the repertoire of the sonata. With his partners Jeff Cohen and Cédric Tiberghien,
he performs in the most beautiful concert halls in Paris
(Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Palais Garnier...).

For the labels Syrius, Saphir and Intégral, Pierre LÉNERT and Jeff COHEN have recorded recital
that all won to acclaim of musical rewiews,
in particular the first recording of the complete works by Henry VIEUXTEMPS.
Pierre LÉNERT has recently recorded with Cédric TIBERGHIEN works by Enesco, Francaix and Milhaud.

An opera lover, at the age of twenty he became « super soloist » of the Orchestre de l'Opéra National de Paris
and he has performed solo since then. The music of this century occupies a large place
in Pierre LÉNERT's activities. Quite a number of musicians have dedicated their music to him.
He has created works by Ian Wilson (Red over Black, BBC), Graziane Finzi (Ainsi la vie),
Marc Bleuse (Bairro Alto), Antoine Duhamel (The Lamento Mémoire, concerto for viola),
Edison Denisov (concerto for two violas), Stéphane Wiener, Thierry Pécou...
Pierre LÉNERT has been the artistic director of the « Sérénade » chamber Music Festival in Surgères since 2005.
