GAËTANE PROUVOST  VIOLINIST

Gaëtane PROUVOST studied with Roland Charmy and Jean Hubeau at the Conservatoire National Supérieur
de Musique de Paris, and continued her musical training at New York's Juilliard School
with Ivan Galamian and Samuel Rhodes of the Juilliard Quartet.
However, her real maestro would be Zino Francescatti, one of the great virtuosi of the last century
and a direct heir to the Paganini technique. She wrote a biography of Francescatti
(published by Harmattan) and recorded his original compositions and transcriptions
(Empreinte Digitale,1995).

In an era where interpretation tends to be standardised, Gaëtane PROUVOST has managed
to instil her playing with a great variety of timbre and expression.
Endowed with the solid technique and rare sonority that constitute the distinctive hallmark
of the Paganini tradition, she is equally skilful in any register.
Her exceptional classical training enables her to tackle the modern repertoire with that same expertise.
Several works – including those of Olivier Greif? – have been dedicated to her,
and she is frequently asked to perform by the Ensemble Intercontemporain
with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Gary Bertini and Pierre Boulez.
Olivier Messiaën chose her to perform Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps for its first performance in the U.S.S.R.

Gaëtane PROUVOST is also an accomplished chamber musician and regularly plays with Noël Lee,
Emmanuel Strosser, Jean-Paul Sevilla, Anne Queffelec, Roland Pidoux, Bruno Canino,
Yvan Chiffoleau, Jean-Philippe Collard and Yves Henri.
Her recording of Prokofiev's sonatas with Abdel Rahman El Bacha was unanimously hailed by the critics
and conferred a Disque Choc de la Musique (Forlane).

Gaëtane PROUVOST also performs in trios on a regular basis, and was thus featured
on the world premiere recording of Anton Reicha Opus 101 n°  5 and Dvorak's famous Dumky.
A theatre lover, she frequently appears on stage with Marie-Christine Barrault
in an adaptation of « Vol de Nuit » (Night Flight) which combines music with some of the finest pages
penned by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Gaëtane PROUVOST holds a diploma from Institut Supérieur de Pédagogie and
currently divides her time between her career as a soloist and teaching
in various academies throughout France and abroad.

With the pianist Laurent Cabasso, she released an album of Gabriel Pierné's chamber music
on the INTEGRAL Classic label which was enthusiastically received by the press.
